Dishonored: Creative Kills Trailer

Today, Bethesda released a trailer of their upcoming game, Dishonoured, showcasing just how experimental you can get with your kills. It shows you the three primary styles of killing and explains how you can combine the different mechanics within this style with each other, in order to create endless possibilities of how to dispose of your foes or even how to get your foes to dispose of each other.

The first style the game shows off is called “death by rat”. Sounds simple enough right? Well, Bethesda manages to make this unbelievably unique. Implementing the games dark, twisted atmosphere along with the extent of how creative you can get with the kills, which manages to forge an abundantly diverse and compelling game mechanic. Spawning countless, blade equipped rats, decelerating time and then possessing one of these lethal rodents is just one of the ways you can dispatch of your enemies.

Sometimes, it’s nice to just sit back and watch your foes tear each other apart; this can be achieved with the “friendly fire” style of slaughter. Slowing down time also plays a huge part in the game, but there is something that feels so different when slowing down time in Dishonoured compared to other games that implement this mechanic. When slowing down time in Dishonoured, the whole environment immediately distorts into black and white, and then you start to hear the faint whispers from voices inside your head, along with the strong arrhythmical beat of your heart. Again, many games have done this, but Dishonoured manages to perfect it. While in slow motion, you can instantly switch places with your target, and watch them devour each other, without you having to fire even a single bullet. This is just one way to take advantage of this effective mechanic.

Finally, and what is probably the most lethal and quickest style, is ‘reversal of fortune’. According to the trailer, this style relies heavily on the use of the your wind power and electrical gates. The trailer also presents how you can steal a re-wiring device, which allows you to reverse who the electrical gate detects as foe. This effectively kills any enemy who touches it, which also gives you the option to send a powerful gust of wind and forcefully blowing your enemies into it.

With Dishonoured’s release date right around the corner, it won’t be long until you will be thinking up brutally destructive ways to slaughter your opponents.
