L4D2 Updates: Cold Stream DLC, Mutations, and Minecraft?

I love L4D2, I played it a lot when it first came out. But recently I’ve stopped, because there hasn’t been anything that enticed me to play it. Well, this week Valve has released a brand new patch/DLC to L4D2 which introduces new maps, game modes and more.

New Maps:

Cold Stream: This map has been on the PC version for a while now, in a public beta test version. Now it is being released on 360. This was a community-made map that Valve picked up and added as one of its staples. You are in a forest and must escape and fight your way to a chopper rescue.

The next four maps are L4D maps made in L4D2

Crash Course: This map has the original survivors from L4D, and happens after No Mercy. You must fight through the warehouse section of town to escape the zombie horde.

Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest: The same L4D missions with the same survivors, but with L4D2′s Director and zombie hordes.

All Mutations, ALL the time:

L4D2′s famous Mutations – specially customized gametypes such as: “Tanks Only”, “Last Man on Earth”, “Lone Gunman” and many others – were always weekly rotations in the L4D2 map scene. The team at Valve is making all past Mutations available at all times. 360 owners will need The Passing DLC to access them, though.

L4D2 On Demand:

With this update, L4D2 joins the already large library of titles available through Games On Demand, news that I bet lots of 360 users will welcome .

Zombie Penguins:

Steam recently announced that they will be building games for Linux; now it has been revealed that L4D2 will be one of the first games to cross over to the platform. If you wish to follow the Linux development, click here.

Left 4 Minecraft?:

Valve likes to feature their community maps, and this month’s featured map is “DeathCraft II”, a full conversion mod of the L4D world into Minecraft. If you dont know how to install a community map, all the instructions and the file for the map are here. Also, as part of this Minecraft/L4D crossover, all 8 survivors will be character skins on the XBL version of Minecraft.

Movie Magic:

What with the recent release of Source Filmmaker, there have been tons of TF2 movies featuring the Heavy and Engineer making the rounds. Now, you can use the L4D assets as well.

This is one of the largest updates I have seen since the game came out some 2 years ago. If you love L4D2, rejoice; it is also on sale for only 5$ this week as part of Steam’s Midweek sale!!
