PC Gamers haven’t even been able to bask long in the victory of getting Dark Souls over to their platform yet, and already news that could ruin it all for them has just surfaced. DRM is usually a reason that many PC gamers will avoid games altogether and Namco-Bandai and From Software have just chosen one of the worst; Games for Windows LIVE. If you don’t know about GFW live, then let me give you a quick rundown on why people despise it as they do.
- It’s BROKEN. Simple things like just activating your games often requires you to update the program, check for updates that in my experience usually crash the game, or cause it to have to reboot to take effect, and until you do, it will not allow you to log in.
- Having to log in to a 3rd party just to play a game that sometimes has it’s own log in system, therefore having you log in multiple times just to play a game. Example being GTA IV, a game that has you log-in to Steam(if this is where you purchased it), Social Club, and finally GFWL just to get to the main menu.
- Resource hungry, extra resources are being stolen that could be much better if used in the game other than slowing down your system with feature that barely even work.
Basically it’s a giant mess. If they want to incorporate a third party DRM, don’t use Games for Windows LIVE, they should use Steamworks, cause as its name says, STEAM WORKS.
This is such a issue that the gamers have even taken a stand to have this remedied.

That is a petition that is hopefully to make the developers aware just how big of a mistake this is.
